Cambridge

Harvard University’s 209 acres (85 ha)* main campus is located in Harvard Yard in Cambridge, about 3 miles (5 km) west-northwest of downtown Boston, extending into the area surrounding Harvard Square. Harvard Yard itself contains major administrative offices such as University Hall and Massachusetts Hall; and bookstores such as Winder, Posey, Houghton, and Lamont; And the memorial church; As well as academic buildings such as Seaver Hall and Harvard Hall; Most of the dorms are freshmen. Undergraduates, juniors, and seniors live in twelve residence halls, nine of which are south of Harvard Yard along or near the Charles River. The other three are located in a residential neighborhood about a half-mile northwest of the courtyard in a quadrangle (commonly referred to as “the Quad”) that housed Radcliffe College students until the Radcliffe housing system merged with Harvard University, each residence being an undergraduate community. and deans, faculty, and resident teachers, in addition to a dining hall, library, and recreational spaces.[43] The dorms were made possible by a gift from Yale alumnus Edward Harkness.[44]

Radcliffe Yard, formerly the center of the Radcliffe College campus and now home to Harvard University’s Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study,[45] is adjacent to the Graduate School of Education and the Cambridge Joint School of Education.

Harvard University owns several commercial properties in Cambridge.[46][47]

Olston

Harvard Business School, the Harvard Innovation Labs, and several athletics facilities, including Harvard Stadium, are located on a 358-acre (145 ha)* campus in Allston,[48] a Boston neighborhood directly across the Charles River from the Cambridge campus. The John W. Weeks Bridge, a pedestrian bridge over the Charles River, connects the two campuses.

The university is actively expanding in Allston, as it now owns a larger area of land in Cambridge.[49] Plans include new construction and renovation of the business school, a hotel and conference center, graduate student housing, Harvard Stadium, and other athletics facilities.[50]

In 2021, the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences will expand into a new science and engineering complex of more than 500,000 square feet in Allston.[51] The SEC will be located near the Enterprise Research Campus, the Business School, and Harvard Innovation Labs to encourage startups focused on technology and life sciences, as well as collaborations with mature companies.[52]

Longwood

The School of Medicine, School of Dentistry, and School of Public Health are located on a 21-acre (8.5 ha)* campus in Boston’s Longwood Medical and Academic District about 3.3 miles (5.3 km) south of the Cambridge campus.[12] Several Harvard University-affiliated hospitals and research institutes are also located in Longwood, including Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston Children’s Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Joslin Diabetes Center, and the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering. Additional affiliates, most notably Massachusetts General Hospital, are located throughout the greater Boston area.

Other

Harvard University also has the Dumbarton Oaks Library and Research Collection in Washington, D.C., the Harvard Forest in Petersham, Massachusetts, and the Concord Field Station in Estabrook Woods in Concord, Massachusetts,[53] the Villa i Tatti Research Center in Florence, Italy,[54] the Harvard Shanghai Center. in Shanghai, China,[55] and the Arnold Arboretum in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston.
